Advancing research on state and local government budgeting and management
Led by Prof. Benedict S. Jimenez (currently at Georgia State University), the lab's mission is to advance knowledge of issues affecting the ability of state and local governments to finance and provide public services and infrastructure that are critical for the health, safety, and well-being of citizens, broadly defined. With funding from the National Science Foundation, state government agencies, and private foundations, the specific goals of the lab include:
Research Leadership: Applying rigorous analysis to novel datasets to answer critical questions in state and local public budgeting and finance.
Knowledge Dissemination: Publishing research findings in academic journals, presenting at conferences, and providing free access to all research publications and reports.
Data Provision: Offering open access to resources such as databases to support the work of other researchers.
Education and Training: Providing training, educational, and publishing opportunities for students.
Collaboration: Working with other researchers, institutions, and stakeholders to improve the quality and impact of the research.
Policy Influence: Informing and influencing policy decisions through evidence-based research and expert consultations.
